Meet Tierney

Tierney is in the final stages of completing her Master’s in Counselling Psychology and is currently practicing under the supervision of our head of couples therapy, Ciji Fortier.

Many of Tierney’s clients come to therapy feeling weighed down by painful past experiences or stuck in difficult thought patterns they can’t seem to break. They describe being on edge, easily triggered, or disconnected from the people and activities that once brought them joy. Tierney understands how overwhelming it can feel to be caught in cycles of anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or emotions that feel too heavy to manage alone.

Tierney’s goal as a therapist is to walk alongside clients as they navigate these struggles, offering compassion, collaboration, and support. She helps clients uncover their strengths, build resilience, and find practical tools for managing overwhelming emotions. At the same time, she creates space to explore the deeper experiences that have shaped how clients see themselves and their relationships.

Her approach balances practical strategies with insight-oriented exploration, helping clients move toward greater self-confidence, emotional balance, and a stronger connection to the present. Her work is grounded in attachment theory and emotion-focussed therapy. Attachment theory and EFT help us understand the patterns in our relationships and create safer, more supportive connections.

Outside of her work as a therapist, Tierney enjoys spending time at home with her cat, Angus.
