Meet Faith

Faith is a professionally trained Facility Dog working alongside Claire and Tierney as part of the J&K team and therapeutic practice. Faith was trained and placed by Fire Team K9 Service Dogs, a Wounded Warriors Canada affiliated charity specializing in the training and placement of Service and Facility Dogs.

Faith has received specialized training to work as part of a professional Animal Assisted Counseling (AAT-C) and Canine-Assisted Intervention (CAI) team. Her training includes advanced obedience and public access skills, therapeutic task work, engagement with individuals and groups, stress detection, and working safely around heightened emotion and dysregulation. She is also trained to communicate with her Handler within complex clinical, medical, community, and trauma-informed environments.

Faith's training allows Claire and Tierney to intentionally integrate her into the therapeutic process based on the needs, comfort, and goals of each individual. Faith may support grounding and emotional regulation, reduce social pressure, help facilitate connection and engagement, provide opportunities for communication and skill development, or participate in structured therapeutic activities.

Faith is specifically prepared to work within trauma-informed environments, including with individuals experiencing stress, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and trauma-related responses. An important part of this work is also recognizing Faith as an active member of the therapeutic team. She is trained to communicate her own needs to her Handler, ensuring that her welfare, choice, and consent remain an important part of the work she does.

Faith's hugs, steady presence, and joyful personality bring something unique to the therapeutic space. Whether she is providing a grounding presence during a difficult moment, helping someone feel more comfortable engaging in therapy, or simply creating an opportunity for connection, Faith can make the therapeutic process feel a little more approachable and accessible for everyone.
